This classification is defined by the American  National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) that have specified standards for different types of electrical enclosures typically used in industrial applications. The different ratings under the NEMA system refer to protection against personal access to parts that may be dangerous to operators.

According to the NEMA website, classification ”NEMA 4” is defined as the following: ”Enclosures constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against access to hazardous parts; to provide a degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt and windblown dust); to provide a degree of protection with respect to  harmful effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (rain, sleet, snow, splashing water, and hose directed water); and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure. ”

The ”NEMA 4”-standard requires several testing procedures and Industrilas has tested several products in regards to water ingress. These products - and the products manufactured in the same way and those have the same geometry are concidered to fulfil the NEMA 4-classification. They are classified  according to the water-test in the NEMA 4 testing procedure. This exceeds IEC classification IP65.

The products on the following catalogue pages are concidered to be waterproof according to the tests in NEMA 4 and these product pages are marked with this icon for clarity.

The following pages have products waterproof according to NEMA 4:
